Powerline truncates this forest to the north, open peatland surrounds it on all sides. The larger wetland complex is surrounded by agricultural land.;Mid-successional forested swamp, with much down wood, nurse logs, and tip mounds. Mosses form continuous cover of hummocks and hollows. A few openings harbor ferns and rice cutgrass. Goldthread grows on the the hummocks. Many of the downed trunks look larger than the living trees. Muck in hollows is fairly deep (40 cm.).
Representativeness
Typical spruce swamp, similar to many we have seen in floodplains. This stand has a good amount of structure although old stumps are also present, indicating past logging.
